Textile Art as a Lens to See Desert Beauty

Daisy Michel wanted to help her 1st and 2nd grade students connect the world of art to the Sonoran Desert. Students worked together with Kate and Nacho to create a public work of art in the form of a large textile – a wall hanging, composed of native plant species and recycled fabric to celebrate life of the Sonoran Desert.

The finished piece was framed and installed on the school grounds to be shared as a visual teaching tool for years to come.
